The Devil's Blood, Hangman's Chair, Broken Clown - Blood, Chairs and Clowns!
With the release of last years EP Come, Reap and this years debut full-length The Time Of No Time Evermore Dutch band The Devil’s Blood became well known in it’s genre in fairly short time. Time to check out the buzz at Rotterdam’s Baroeg with support by Broken Clown and Hangman’s Chair. A night full of suprises!

Opening the evening was the Belgian rock outfit Broken Clown. That’s a real shitty name for a band, and unfortunately their singer also sounded like a broken clown. That guy just plain sucked ass, ruining the whole performance and the overall sound of the band. The stoner/doom riffs with some hardcore influences were occasionally nice, but every time that singer opened his mouth, more people went to hang at the bar and ignored the band on stage. Get rid of that guy and try again please. (DemonDust)

I had been looking forward to seeing Hangman’s Chair ever since I heard their music for the first time about a year ago. Unfortunately the band has a new singer since, because their old singer disappeared after a show once and was never seen again. The drug use in this band is very high, probably one of the reasons that guy took of and vanished. Back to the music, the essential thing about that singer is that he could really mimic the vocal sound of Layne Staley (RIP) of Alice In Chains, and this new guy is not so fond of doing this. Especially in the new songs the band played this became apparent. Luckily when they played some older stuff he did reach out to those typical vocal sounds that I wanted to hear. Overall the band itself played their stoner/doom excellently with a massive sound and a lot of enthusiasm. It’s just too bad that singer (even though he is really good) doesn’t have that sound I was hoping for. I’m still curious to hear the new record though. (DemonDust)

There has been a lot of buzz about The Devil’s Blood lately and I was dying to check out what this was all about! The Devil’s Blood is a sixpiece hailing from The Netherlands who have become well known in the past year or so. Just after Hangman’s Chair finished their set, the whole room was already filled with incense and candle light to create the perfect atmosphere for a set like this. The band entered the stage completely covered in pig-blood and leather jackets to make the show even more obscure. But I must say this image really fits their spacey and experimental music. Almost like atmospheric black metal without too much of the “metal” part combined with 70’s hard/psychedelic rock, speeded up Jefferson Airplane parts and Black Sabbath. Get it now? Probably not, this is one of those bands that are too hard to describe for this journalist! With the release of their debut album The Time Of No Time Evermore, their set contained mostly tracks of this album. But to my surprise, they actually started with two of my favourite tracks; ‘Come, Reap’ and ‘Rivers of Gold’ from last years release Come Reap, as well as the rest of the tracks from this EP later on in the set. A brilliant set that lasted for almost an hour. No crowd interaction and no encore, just track after track including some jam parts where the 3 guitarists did an absolute brilliant job and the word “timing” just got a new meaning. Overall an awesome show and I’m very convinced this band is only going to get bigger and bigger over the next few years. I’m already looking forward to see them at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting, with a probably shorter set on a bigger stage. Let’s see how that works out! For now on, try to get The Time Of No Time Evermore out of my playlist. A hard job I tell you! (Brent_)
